Gabrielle is a Boston-based singer/songwriter with a free spirit and a big
mouth! Influenced by timeless writers such as Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell,
Gabrielle displays a fondness for storytelling. Her songs are rooted in folk
and country — while her melody and delivery show strong pop sensibilities. Her
sound has the agrarian feel of The Band, while her performances and angelic
voice draw comparisons to contemporary musicians such as Shawn Colvin,
Jewel, and Kathleen Edwards.
Raised in a small town in the Colorado Rockies,
Gabrielle made her way to Boston via a scholarship to the Berklee College of
Music where she is currently finishing her training. The stark differences
between her country life in the West coast and her cosmopolitan life on the
East coast has offered a great deal of inspiration to the budding performer.
While in Boston, Gabrielle performs both solo and with the backing of “The
Acoustics,” a rhythm section comprised of three musicians from Buenos Aires.
Back in Colorado, Gabrielle performs with her mother as part of the acoustic
duo MotherGabrielle.
In between, Gabrielle has shown her diversity by
recording vocals for reggae music (Colorado-based band The Atol), rap
(Maine-based artist Elemental), and performing in opera and musical theater
productions.
Gabrielle has been performing on the stage since a very young
age, having grown up in a musical family. Her father began touring as lead guitarist for country music star Michael Martin Murphy when
Gabrielle was eight. A few years later, Gabrielle and her mother were
performing at festivals and venues such as the “Michael Martin Murphy Cowboy
Gathering” and the renowned “Black Rose Acoustic Society,” often with the
accompaniment of her father and three siblings.
In 2001, Gabrielle began
playing guitar and writing songs at the Interlochen Art and Music Camp. This
experience planted the seeds of her desire to carve out a career as a
singer/songwriter.
In 2005, Gabrielle released her first EP, "Amber and Black". She has begun work on her debut album, "Gone Again," to be released in the
spring of 2006. The twenty-year-old musician is noted for her poignant lyrics that are reminiscent of a young Joan Baez or Mary Chapin Carpenter. Being transplanted from a small town in Colorado to the city of Boston has
given her a unique country/folk sound that is East Coast refined. Her songwriting has impressed fans and critics alike, becoming a two-time finalist in the John Lennon Songwriting contest.
Gabrielle is creating a sound that aims to re-awaken substance in popular music. She is a buoyant and stunning performer; but that’s only the beginning. Anyone who listens to
Gabrielle Louise will notice she has an old soul, a traveler’s spirit, and a
voice as clear as a Rocky Mountain morning.
